With 40 Billboard Hot 100 songs and over 300 guest appearances with megastars such as Michael Jackson, Lady Gaga, Gwen Stefani, R. Kelly and Eminem, Akon is one of the most popular artists and producers in music today. He rose to prominence with the smash hit single “Locked Up” from his debut album, Trouble, in 2004. His second album, Konvicted, earned him three Grammy Award nominations for singles “Smack That” featuring Eminem and “I Wanna Love You” featuring Snoop Dogg.
Akon has since gone on to sell more than 10 million albums worldwide and garner numerous awards and critical acclaim. In 2007 alone, Akon won the American Music Award for Favorite Soul/R&B Male Artist; three World Music Awards in the categories of Best Selling R&B Male Artist, Best Selling African Artist and Best Selling Internet Artist; as well as the Billboard Music Award for Artist of the Year. He is the first solo artist to hold both the number one and two spots simultaneously on the Billboard Hot 100 charts—an achievement he attained twice.
A true entrepreneur and dedicated philanthropist, Akon founded two successful record labels, Kon Live and Konvict, which launched the careers of Lady Gaga and T-Pain and started The Konfidence Foundation, which aids underserved children in Africa and the U.S. His highly anticipated Stadium LP has been slated for release this year.
